The HIV Criminalisation Online Course

This course provides a global overview of HIV criminalisation. It will be useful for anyone who is interested in learning more about HIV criminalisation and how to advocate effectively against it.

Duration

It should take several hours to complete the six main chapters (plus additional time for further, optional resources).

Course type

This is a free-to-access, online, on-demand course. You can enrol, start, and complete the course when it suits you, at your own pace. The course is made up of six chapters and you will need to complete each chapter in order. However, you can work through them at a time that suits you. So you don’t forget what you learned in the previous chapters, we recommend that you complete the course within a couple of weeks (depending on your other commitments). 

We recommend that you use the Academy chat, allowing you to be in contact with other learners, to make comments and provide feedback on the course.

By the end of the course, you should have understood/or refreshed your understanding of:

  • what HIV criminalisation is and how it fuels stigma toward people with HIV;
  • its adverse impacts on both individual and public health and on human rights, and how that undermines the HIV response;
  • the arguments and evidence to advocate effectively against it;
  • the tools and resources available from the HIV Justice Network (HJN) and its HIV JUSTICE WORLDWIDE (HJWW) partners.

There are opportunities available to continue to engage with HJN and HJWW after the training and be part of the global movement working to end HIV criminalisation. 

There is a certificate available when you successfully complete the course.
